£2m award for leg and spinal injuries in motorbike accident
We achieved a significant award for our client, Nigel Dicker, who was injured on his motorbike when a car pulled out of a side road and smashed into him.
He sustained devastating injuries to his left leg and back and continues to suffer from severe pain. He also suffered severe serious psychological injuries that required psychiatric treatment.
Nigel still finds the pain difficult to tolerate. He was one of the first patients ever to be fitted with an implanted spinal cord stimulator but unfortunately it only had a minimal impact on pain levels described as ‘overwhelming’ by our pain specialist.
The evidence we obtained from experts in a variety of medical disciplines confirmed that Nigel would never be able to work again and he would require substantial care, assistance and equipment for the rest of his life. Court proceedings were issued and the defendant admitted liability but had yet to agree quantum (how much the claim should be worth).
£549,000 was paid immediately on account. Access Legal obtained a further £40,000 for the spinal cord stimulator procedure £500,000.00 to fund further recommended surgery and to purchase and adapt a property for Nigel.
The defendant proposed a figure of £2m gross of those interim payments to settle, so we and the appointed counsel met with Nigel at his home to discuss the offer. Nigel accepted and the defendant also agreed to pay his legal costs.
