Victoria Federico

Victoria has specialised in education law, particularly special educational needs since July 2008. Victoria works for parents and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, visual difficulties, learning difficulties, dyslexia, dyspraxia, genetic disorders, Down’s syndrome and hearing difficulties. She works with the families and young people to secure the best possible provision and educational placement for them.

Victoria advises parents whose children/young people are transferring from the old to new SEN system, including converting a Statement of Special Educational Needs to an Education, Health and Care plan. This involves advice on the transfer process and in securing the best outcome, provisions and placement in the new plan.

She has experience in securing placements at a range of mainstream and special schools and colleges, including residential and split placements.

Victoria has also worked for Ambitious about Autism, the national charity for children and young people with autism. Victoria was responsible for developing and implementing the information strategy for the organisation. This included supporting and providing information to families and young people, providing training to families and education professionals on the special educational needs legal regime, supporting the opening of a special free school and Ambitious College. She was also a key part of the project team in the ‘Finished at School’ Department for Education funded programme. This programme worked with general further education colleges supporting young people with complex autism to transition into their college.

Victoria regularly provides training to parents, support groups and professionals on education law, particularly special educational needs and disability. She has also spoken at a national conference for case managers, attends exhibitions and writes articles on education law.

‘Gurvinder Samra and Victoria Federico were patient, professional and responsive to all the questions and concerns that I had regarding the EHCP process. They were always professional and their warm, friendly and jargon-free way of explaining legal matters meant I was always clear of my rights and how to exercise them to ensure my child received the support that was needed. I highly recommend Access Legal and have had no hesitation in contacting them again in respect of my child's annual EHCP review.’ (Mrs K)

‘We can't thank Victoria and the team enough for the support and patience that they have shown us along the way. Initially, we approached Victoria to check the EHCP, then having won at Tribunal, the LA continued to misbehave. Victoria worked hard to support us & to help reach a solution. Sadly, the LA then took us to Upper Tier Tribunal & we needed further support, both emotional and legal. Again Victoria pulled it out of the bag, the barrister that she sourced was fantastic & thankfully the LA appeal was dismissed! Thank you so much Victoria and team!‘ (Paula Holden)
