Birmingham Black Lawyers Summer Ball 2018 sells out

Share

The organisers of the third annual Birmingham Black Lawyers (BBL) Summer Ball at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on 2 June 2018 report that tickets have been a sell out for this year’s event. Over the years the Ball has grown in popularity and now hosts 150 guests. This year the event will focus on entertainment and a raffle in aid of the Sickle Cell Society.

Kishma Bolaji, founder and co-chair of Birmingham Black Lawyers, is an associate solicitor in local law firm Access Legal Solicitors, which is also the platinum sponsor for the event. Kishma’s particular specialism is in medical negligence cases, her work being described by clients as ‘professional excellence at its best’.

Access Legal Solicitors is a trading name of national law firm Shoosmiths LLP. Already noted for its excellent track in encouraging diversity, Shoosmiths regularly features in the top of the Black Solicitors Network Diversity League Table. The mission of Birmingham Black Lawyers is to encourage the city’s legal community to continue to embrace diversity by promoting a higher level of integration in local law firms.

BBL provides support to those seeking to advance in their careers in the law, acting as a bridge between junior and more senior legal professionals as well as facilitating professional and social networking opportunities such as the Summer Ball. Kishma is delighted with the sponsorship and the popularity of the event:

‘The Ball has been extremely well supported and demand for tickets had been such that, for the first time, we have had to turn guests away. We are expecting both private and public sector legal practitioners as well as senior business people, with many travelling from outside Birmingham for the networking opportunity.’

She adds:

‘To prosper, any law firm needs the best people, regardless of their background, to deliver results for an equally diverse range of clients. Birmingham Black Lawyers will continue its efforts to ensure that people are recognised, not for their ethnicity or gender, but rather for their ambition, creativity and talent.’
