In May 2016, Michael moved to Access Legal from Thompsons Solicitors where he supervised the high value clinical claims team.
After reading Law at Durham University, Michael started his training contract in 2002. Michael has experience dealing with a range of medical negligence issues, including: delayed diagnosis of cancer; amputations; surgical errors and birth injuries. He has litigated a large number of high value clinical cases and has been successful at trial at both the High Court and Court of Appeal. Michael has recovered many millions of pounds of compensation for his clients.
Recent highlights include:
- Representing and recovering damages for the patients of the disgraced breast surgeon Mr Ian Paterson. Michael has significant experience assisting patients from Mr Paterson’s NHS and private practices.
- Recovering in excess of £1 million for a client who suffered paraplegia following the delay in diagnosis of a spinal abscess.
- Recovering a significant six figure sum for a patient who suffered a delay in diagnosis of bone cancer.
- Securing more than £500,000 for the widower of a patient whose adrenal gland tumour went undiagnosed for eighteen months.
Michael has been commended in the Legal 500, the foremost guide to law firms, being described as “tenacious and proactive”. He is a member of the Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel and frequently provides comment in the press on clinical negligence issues.
Outside work, Michael is a keen sportsman. He represented Nottinghamshire at rugby, as well as having played for the Midlands District in Scotland. He is married with two young children.
